WellCare Health Plans, Inc. engages in the provision of government-sponsored managed care services through Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans to families, children, seniors, and individuals with complex medical needs. It operates through the following segments: Medicaid Health Plans, Medicare Health Plans, and Medicare PDPs. The Medicaid Health Plans segment includes plans for beneficiaries of TANF, SSI and ABD programs and other state-based programs that are not part of the Medicaid program, such as CHIP and MLTC. Ken Burdick, CEO

Ken Burdick
Chief Executive Officer

Ken was named CEO of WellCare Health Plans in January 2015. He leads the company in its mission to provide quality, cost-effective health care solutions for the company’s members, providers and government customers.

Ken joined WellCare as president, national health plans, in January 2014. He was promoted to president and chief operating officer in June 2014 and was named a member of the board of directors in December 2014.

Prior to joining WellCare, Ken served as president and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota; CEO of Coventry Health Care’s Medicaid Division; and CEO of MHNet, a Coventry behavioral health business unit.

Ken also spent 14 years as an executive with UnitedHealth Group, rising through positions of increasing responsibility including senior vice president, national underwriting, CEO of UnitedHealthcare and CEO of the company’s Secure Horizon retail Medicare business.

Throughout his career, Ken has served on a number of nonprofit boards, including the board of directors of the United Way in both Minneapolis and Phoenix. He currently sits on the board of directors for America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

Ken holds a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Amherst College and a law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Drew Asher

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Drew was named executive vice president and chief financial officer in October 2016. He leads the company’s financial activities, including financial and performance management, capital strategy and planning, actuarial, medical economics, internal controls, investment management, corporate development and investor relations. Previously he served as senior vice president and CFO. He joined WellCare in August 2014 as senior vice president.

Prior to joining WellCare, Drew was the CFO of Aetna’s local and regional businesses, a position he held since May 2013 when his former employer, Coventry Health Care, was acquired by Aetna. Drew was with Coventry for 15 years, most recently as senior vice president, corporate finance.

During his tenure with Coventry, he had responsibility for financial planning and analysis, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, treasury, real estate and procurement. He started his career with Deloitte & Touche LLP where he spent five years as an auditor and accountant serving clients including managed care.

Drew holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Florida and a master’s in taxation from the University of Central Florida.

Stephanie Davis: Senior Vice President, Division President

Stephanie was named senior vice president, division president in April 2017. She is responsible for operations in WellCare’s Arizona, Hawaii and Nebraska markets.

Prior to joining WellCare, Stephanie spent nearly 20 years with Mercer Health & Benefits, LLC where she held a variety of executive roles of increasing scope and responsibility. Most recently, Davis served as a senior partner and western region business leader at Mercer with responsibility for eight states in the western territory.
Stephanie also led Mercer’s National Medicaid Consulting Practice.

Prior to her tenure at Mercer, Stephanie served as assistant director of managed care with Arizona’s Medicaid agency, the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS).

Stephanie holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of San Diego. She is based in WellCare’s Arizona office in Phoenix.

Darren Ghanayem

Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Darren was named senior vice president, chief information officer in April 2016. He is responsible for further advancing WellCare’s technology capabilities to support the company’s focus on growth and innovation opportunities. He reports to the CEO and serves as a member of the executive leadership team.

Prior to joining WellCare, Darren spent more than 15 years with Anthem, formerly WellPoint, Inc., where he provided leadership for a broad variety of technology initiatives. Most recently, he served as vice president of business transformation, where he developed innovative solutions to improve health care for members and providers. Prior to assuming this role, Darren held roles of increasing responsibility, serving as a director, staff VP, VP and VP/CIO of Anthem’s commercial business unit. Darren also served as a senior project director with Access Systems, LLC and as a product manager with Reynolds and Reynolds.

Darren earned a bachelor’s degree in aerospace technology with a concentration in computer technology and an associate in applied science electrical engineering technology from Purdue University.

Notably, in 2013, Darren was recognized as a Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leader.

Anat Hakim, SVP, General Counsel and Secretary

Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary

Anat was named senior vice president, general counsel and secretary in September 2016. She is responsible for leading the company’s legal department.

Most recently, Anat served as divisional vice president, associate general counsel, litigation for Abbott Laboratories, a global diagnostics, medical device, nutrition and branded generic pharmaceuticals manufacturer. In this role, she had oversight of the company’s commercial litigation; intellectual property litigation; government investigations; significant compliance internal investigations and remediation; and labor and employment counseling.

Prior to joining Abbott, Anat spent 12 years with Foley & Lardner, LLP, an international law firm, including eight years as an equity partner, where she focused on patent, trademark, trade secret and complex commercial lawsuits. Before joining Foley & Lardner, she served as an associate with the law firm Latham & Watkins for five years.

Anat holds a B.A. in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a J.D. from Harvard University.

Mark Leenay, MD - SVP, CMO

Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Mark Leenay was named senior vice president and chief medical officer for WellCare Health Plans in July 2017. He is responsible for executing on the clinical vision for WellCare with a particular focus on population health management and delivering clinical value. He leads WellCare’s clinical strategy and policy to improve members’ health outcomes and clinical and system integration, while reducing overall healthcare costs. Previously, he was chief medical director of care model.

Dr. Leenay has more than 30 years of clinical and operational experience. Prior to joining WellCare in 2016, he served as a chief medical officer and senior vice president within various divisions of Optum. In these roles, he supported clinical solutions in the U.S. and abroad overseeing clinical programs ranging from wellness to complex condition management.

Previously, Dr. Leenay served as chief medical officer for the Medicare and retirement business of UnitedHealthcare with accountability for clinical programs, medical payment policy and network relationships. Prior to joining UnitedHealthcare, Dr. Leenay directed the palliative care division at the University of Minnesota, Fairview after 10 years of community-based clinical practice.

Dr. Leenay earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Le Moyne College, a master’s degree in educational psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, and a doctor of medicine degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He completed his residency at Overlook Hospital, at the time, an affiliate of Columbia University.

Dr. Leenay is board-certified in family medicine, geriatrics, and hospice and palliative care.

Gregg MacDonald

Gregg was named senior vice president, division president in October 2016. He is responsible for WellCare’s operations in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. He joined WellCare in 2007 and has more than 30 years of experience in the health care industry.

He previously served as the president of WellCare of Florida, where he was responsible for the company’s strategy, regulatory compliance, business development, provider contracting and relations, sales and marketing, medical management, finance, and administration in Florida. Prior to that, he served as the company’s chief operating officer for Florida, leading the teams responsible for all state sales, marketing, community outreach, provider contracting and relations, and finance functions.

Before joining WellCare, he was vice president, network management for UnitedHealthcare, which included responsibility for its southeast region government programs and commercial market leadership for central and north Florida. Prior to that, he was vice president, contracting provider services for Cigna and held several leadership positions at Aetna. Earlier in his career, his roles focused on actuarial, underwriting and finance initiatives with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware and Ernst & Young LLP.

Gregg has extensive board experience for various community organizations and WellCare partners, including the Florida Association of Health Plans, Salvation Army, American Red Cross Central Florida Chapter and the Health Planning Council of East Central Florida. 


Rhonda Mims, Senior Vice President, Chief Public Affairs Officer

Rhonda was named senior vice president and chief public affairs officer in August 2016. She is responsible for the development and implementation of the company’s strategic communications, public policy and government affairs, corporate social responsibility, philanthropy, diversity and inclusion, employee volunteerism and brand management.

Most recently, Rhonda served as the managing director of corporate social responsibility at Paul Hastings, LLP. She had oversight of the firm’s diversity and inclusion strategy; charitable giving; pro bono and volunteer efforts; and environmental sustainability. Prior to that, she served as senior vice president of corporate responsibility and chief diversity officer for ING U.S./Voya Financial and president of the ING U.S./Voya Foundation. She previously served as ING U.S./Voya Financial PAC treasurer, ethics officer and conducted government affairs on behalf of the company. Rhonda has also had an extensive legal career, which includes roles with the U.S. Department of Justice, the National District Attorney Association’s American Prosecutor’s Research Institute, and the South Carolina Office of Attorney General.

Rhonda serves as the chairman emeritus of The Executive Leadership Council, president of the Thirty Percent Coalition and sits on the board of directors for the Greater Southeast Affiliate of the American Heart Association. She is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and previously served on the boards of the Citizens Committee for Children in New York, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, America’s Promise, the U. S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the Association of Corporate Contributions Professionals and the Woodruff Arts Center.

She has been acknowledged with numerous awards including CSR Executive of the Year, Top 100 Blacks in Corporate America, and recognized as Woman of the Year by multiple organizations.

Rhonda holds a juris doctor degree and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Carolina.

Kelly Munson

Executive Vice President, Medicaid

Kelly was named executive vice president of Medicaid in October 2016 and leads WellCare’s Medicaid strategy. She has responsibility for the company’s operations in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York and South Carolina.
Previously, she was senior vice president, division president and product, with responsibility for WellCare’s operations in Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. She also led the company’s product development function.

Prior to this, Kelly was named region president for WellCare’s operations in Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee in August 2014. She joined WellCare in 2006, serving in positions of increasing responsibility for WellCare’s Ohio health plan in the areas of operations and regulatory compliance. She was named chief operating officer of WellCare of Kentucky in August 2012 and one year later was named state president, Kentucky.

Before joining WellCare, she held operational positions with Old World Classics, HomeTown Health Network and Medical Mutual of Ohio.

Munson graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree in dietetics and public health nutrition and did graduate work in public administration at the University of Akron.

Mike Polen

Mike was named executive vice president of Medicare and operations in October 2016. He is responsible for WellCare’s Medicare and ACO lines of business and oversees enterprise-wide operations, sales and marketing, and network organizations.

Mike joined WellCare in May 2005. Before assuming his current position, he served as senior vice president of operations and information technology. He also held positions as senior director of health plan finance, director of health plan operations and director of health business planning and analytics.

Prior to joining WellCare, Mike held roles with JPMorgan Chase & Co. as assistant vice president of treasury and security services and as assistant treasurer of balance and liquidity management.

Mike earned a bachelor’s degree in decision and information sciences from the University of Florida and a master of business administration from the University of South Florida.

Michael Radu

Executive Vice President, Clinical Operations and Business Development

Mike was named executive vice president, clinical operations and business development in October 2016. He provides executive leadership over WellCare’s clinical services operations including utilization management, care management, quality and pharmacy along with business development. He is responsible for delivering operational excellence in support of effective and efficient coordination of care to best meet member needs and for helping to drive the company’s strategic growth efforts. Mike joined WellCare in September 2015 as senior vice president, clinical operations and business development.

Prior to that, Mike served as the chief executive officer of Health Essentials and has more than 25 years of experience in the managed care industry including Medicaid and Medicare health plan management, medical group administration, business development, operations and state public affairs at companies including UnitedHealthcare, Lifemark and Optum.

Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and holds an MBA from the University of Southern California (USC) Marshall School of Business.

Dave Reynolds

Senior Vice President, Division President

Dave was named senior vice president, division president in December 2014. He is responsible for WellCare’s operations in Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, New Jersey and New York. He joined the company in November 2012 as region president and led operations in Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York and Ohio.

Dave has more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Before joining WellCare, he served as the state president of Illinois for Humana and was responsible for the commercial health insurance business. He also held the position of vice president of sales and spearheaded a major turnaround effort resulting in significant growth.

Prior to that, he served as the vice president of payer sales at WebMD. Earlier in his career, he held various positions of leadership at Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corporation, HPR, Inc. and Johnson & Johnson.

Dave earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Northern Illinois University.

Timothy Trodden

Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer

Tim was named senior vice president and chief human resources officer in January 2017. He is responsible for creating and driving an overarching people strategy that supports WellCare’s enterprise-wide priorities.

Tim was most recently the head of human resources (HR), corporate enterprise functions for Johnson & Johnson where he led overall HR and talent strategy. During his 16 years with the company, he held other HR roles of increasing responsibility.

Tim holds a bachelor’s degree from Seton Hall University and a master’s degree in human resources management from Rutgers University. He also completed Wharton’s Executive Development Program.

Michael Yount

Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer

Michael has served as senior vice president and chief compliance officer since April 2014. He leads and directs the WellCare’s corporate compliance and ethics program, and oversees the company’s compliance with the laws and regulatory requirements applicable to the company and all of its divisions, subsidiaries and affiliates. He reports to the CEO and the Regulatory Compliance Committee of the WellCare Board of Directors.

Michael joined WellCare in 2011. Before assuming his current position, he served as vice president, regulatory compliance counsel and chief privacy officer.

Prior to joining WellCare, he spent nine years with Rite Aid Corporation, first as government affairs attorney, then as director, government affairs, and ultimately as vice president, regulatory law & compliance monitoring and privacy officer. Prior to joining Rite Aid, he was an attorney with the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.

Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and a law degree, both from Ohio Northern University. He is admitted to the bars in Illinois and New Jersey and is a registered pharmacist in Illinois and Ohio.
